Godre'r Graig Park

Volunteers Group

This project would not exist without the generosity of local people giving up their time to lend a hand. You might think that volunteering will only mean getting dirty in the park cutting back brambles and lots of heavy lifting but you'd be wrong. There are a wealth of volunteering opportunities with this project and no matter what your background, skills or abilities. Many hands make light work and we could always use more hands!

This group was set up to make sure our volunteers voices are heard. We want to make sure everyone has a chance to suggest new things and new ways of doing things. We also want to make sure our volunteers enjoy their time so this group gives people a chance to point out problems to be solved. If you want to be involved but not sure what you could offer, here are some suggestions of the kind of volunteering roles available:

  • Physical work - clearing, creating and maintaining things in the park
  • Litter Picking - there's always something to be cleared out.
  • Safety and security - helping to keep an eye on things day to day and during events.
  • Committee and sub groups - getting right into the thick of it by joining the GCA committee
  • Events - we always need help planning, organisation and running events.
  • Publicity - we need more people to help spread the word when we have events coming up.
  • Funding - help to identify and apply for funding to pay for the developments
  • Entertainment - show off your hidden talents at an event. This could be anything from music to showing other people how to make a lantern, to teaching others about the wildlife in the park.
  • Knowledge and advice - maybe you can lend us the power of what you know. If you have experience of something relevant, you could really help speed things along in the planning stages of work and events.
  • Photography - someone to make sure a photographic record is kept up to date
  • Administration - you wouldn't believe how much paper work there is to keep everything in order and help with this would be fantatstic.
...... and so much more!

The formal role of the Volunteers group can be found in the development plan.

So as you can see, volunteering is for everyone, not just the physically fit. Its also a great way to meet new people and make more friends. If you'd like to know more or make an offer of some help then please get in touch.
